Japanese and Sri Lankan teachers, with very high level of proficiency in teaching the Japanese Language are engaged by JLEA in conducting weekday and weekend classes. Classes are conducted in 2 semesters per year (six months/semester) containing 80 hours per semester.

JLEA conducts Japanese Language classes are conducted on 8 categories from basic to advanced levels, to approximately 800 students/year. The close association JASTECA maintains with the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation has given high credence to the Japanese language classes conducted by the JLEA.

The Japan Foundation conducts the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) internationally to assess the Japanese Language skills of foreign personnel. This JLPT Test is held twice a year worldwide on the 1st Sunday in July and on the 1st Sunday in December every year. In Sri Lanka, JLEA is the sole authority to hold this examination twice a year, under the stringent rules and practices monitored by the representatives of the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation.

The classes conducted by JLEA are considered a gateway for Sri Lankans to go to Japan for higher studies or job training. Even the Japanese companies in Sri Lanka are anxious to employ personnel with Japanese Language knowledge which could be an advantage for the students learning at the JLEA.

Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya,
Chairman, JLEA.

Minasama Konichiwa!

Greetings to you and thank you for visiting this website.

The Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka had been conducting Japanese Language Classes prior to 2001. In the year 2002, the Japanese Language Education Association (JLEA) was established as a Trust with the help of JASTECA. This institution has now become the most professional Japanese Language teaching institute in the country.

I sincerely and gratefully acknowledge the success of the JLEA to the dedication and unstinted commitment of the Management Committee, the faculty of Sri Lanka, Japanese Teachers who are professionally trained in Japan and the JLEA Office Staff for contributing their utmost to develop and improve the JLEA activities with a true sense of loyalty and dedication. JLEA has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) on the first Sunday of July and December each year, when it happens simultaneously around the world. This is facilitated by the Japan Foundation with administrative assistance given by the Japanese Embassy in Colombo.

JLEA has also been entrusted with the responsibility by JASSO to administer and conduct the entrance examination to Japanese Universities (EJU) in June and November each year and the Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest.

All in all a huge responsibility on the association with many people looking up to the JLEA to lead soundly.

Hearty congratulations to the association on this revamping of the official website.

Best wishes to everyone.
Domo arigato gozaimashita!
